Bran Castle became the ''Home of Dracula'' due to Stoker's book – having that its location and characteristics fit the authors' description. And Dracula… well, he was associated with Vlad the Impaler, Vlad Dracul or “the Dragon'' who was voievode/prince of Wallachia in the beginning of the 15th century. Vlad was viewed as an evil ruler because he used to impale criminals, noblemen, foreign slaves and prisoners alive, in order to give them a slow and painful death - people usually died of exhaustion.
One impaling technique he often used, was inserting a spike through the anus and forcing it up the spine, until the other end would get out through the mouth. The impaled bodies would be displayed in front of his residence, where all could see them.

Prejmer Fortification (UNESCO World Heritage) - is the biggest fortified church built by the Teutonic Knights in SE Europe - and the best well preserved fortification in Europe. The construction was completed in only 1 year, from 1212 to 1213.

Explore Sighisoara Medieval Citadel
Sighisoara is one of the very few medieval citadels in the world, that is inhabited to this day. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage so renovations on the houses are strictly regulated. The citadel was built by Saxons in the early 1200. Sighisoara benefited from a strong defense system which was mostly based on bastions and towers. These were protected and financially supported by 14 different guilds of merchants & craftsmen. The towers were given the name of the guild responsible for its administration. From the 14 initial towers, only 9 can be seen today: Clock Tower, Blacksmiths’ Tower, Tinsmiths’ Tower, Butchers’ Tower, Rope-makers’ Tower, Furriers’ Tower, Tailors’ Tower, Tanners’ Tower and Cobblers’ Tower.
